Angels for Shannon

Angels for Shannon (AFS) is a nonprofit organization that supports individuals facing cancer and financial struggles. My story began in 2006 when I discovered I had stage 3 breast cancer, which later progressed to stage 4 in 2010. Treatment options outside of what my health insurance covered became a necessity, and time was of the essence. But amidst the fight, I discovered a community of warriors. Even before fully recovering, my mission became sharing resources and support with others in similar battles. I am forever grateful to all those who contribute to their loved one's cancer treatment. Your love, compassion, and empathy truly make you angels in the lives of those facing this disease.

I understand the emotional toll of fighting for your life and the stress of financial burdens. My extraordinary journey took an unexpected turn as I battled a staph infection and faced inaccessible chemotherapy. However, my spirit remained unyielding. Exploring alternative treatments, I embarked on uncharted paths. Time became a race, but then a miracle happened - I found CMN Hospital, and in five months, thanks to incredible friends and generous souls like Heather, Dawn, Melody, and Cindy, we raised funds to fight for my life. Countless unseen heroes with halos of compassion contributed to my fundraiser, weaving a miraculous tapestry of hope and gratitude.

Forever grateful, my heart connects with those I may never meet to say thank you. We are bound together in a remarkable journey of courage and appreciation. Let's continue inspiring and supporting one another. Together, we can make a difference.

Crowdfunding

The incredible power of crowdfunding in action, watching countless individuals rally together to support those battling cancer treatments not covered by insurance. Crowdfunding has emerged as a lifeline, creating a remarkable impact through the collective good of social networks. It's truly an extraordinary display of solidarity, where friends and family come together to alleviate the burden of exorbitant medical bills. Amidst the grim realities of the healthcare system in the United States, these acts of kindness provide a glimmer of hope, illuminating the path toward a brighter future. Yet, the growing prominence of crowdfunding platforms highlights the flaws in our healthcare system. For many battling cancer, crowdfunding becomes a last resort to secure funds for treatment. It takes immeasurable courage to face financial hardship and health struggles under overwhelming circumstances.

Fundraising Stress

Raising money can be incredibly stressful and filled with uncertainty and doubt. However, if you surround yourself with people who genuinely know and love you, the journey becomes a little easier. Having the support and compassion of loved ones during this challenging process can make all the difference. Sometimes, when facing the most brutal battle of your life, it may feel as if you're losing that compassion and support. It hurts when you're not sure if your loved ones truly understand the magnitude of what you're going through. But keep hope alive because even if it's just one supportive friend or family member standing by your side, they can make a difference in your fundraising efforts.

Remember, you must take that step and ask for help – reach out to them. Your life is worth it, and the impact your fundraising efforts can have is immeasurable. It's understandable to feel the immense stress and fear of waiting to see if any donations are coming in. This challenging journey can be filled with difficult moments, but take solace in the strength and faith you have found in God. Let that be your guiding light to help you navigate those tough times. Ultimately, it's not just about the money you raise but also about the connections you make, the lives you touch, and the inspiration you provide. So keep pushing forward, and never lose sight of your purpose. Your determination and resilience will carry you through, helping you make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who need it most.

Stay strong, have faith, and know that you are not alone on this journey.~ Shannon Knight

“Hey You”

Heather Rayburn

During my battle with breast cancer, Heather Rayburn, my closest friend, displayed incredible empathy and respect for others. She went above and beyond when I asked her to compose a song for fellow survivors. Drawing upon my experiences with cancer, domestic violence, and those she encountered in her own life, Heather beautifully portrayed the adversity we face. Her heartfelt and compassionate nature truly shines through. The result is an extraordinary song titled "Hey You" – a testament to resilience against seemingly insurmountable odds. I invite you to watch the captivating video and share in the powerful message it conveys.
