Self-Compassion

I have this picture of me taped to my desktop computer and framed. It’s me, age five. I keep one on my phone.

Whenever I am harsh and self-critical, I remind myself that it doesn't serve me at all. It tears me down further, and it destroys love.
I look at this little girl, and I imagine all of the things that I say to myself; to her, and it puts things in proper perspective...
Would I speak to a child like this or allow a friend to talk to me critically without loving intentions? Is it a habit, perhaps, that some of us need to break?
Self-compassion is necessary to thrive, mind, body, and soul! Harsh self-criticism destroys joy and even hope.
Without self-compassion, we cannot give as much love as we think we are. To love others unconditionally and fully, we must practice self-compassion, self-respect, and an understanding of the kind of love God has for us.
It builds healthy self-esteem and confidence.

Regardless of the mood you're in, you are the only one who denies yourself love and compassion quite possibly when you need and deserves it most.
